Bihar has launched 551 model schools to strengthen the state's education system, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced. The initiative aims to improve infrastructure, teaching quality, and learning outcomes, providing students with better facilities and access to quality education across the state.
Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari described the launch of 551 model schools across the state as a landmark initiative that will significantly strengthen the quality of school education and expand access to modern learning facilities for students from all sections of society.
Speaking at a state-level function held at the IOC Stadium in Barauni, Begusarai district, the minister said the large-scale initiative marks a major milestone in Bihar's ongoing education reforms and reflects the government's commitment to transforming public education through better infrastructure, academic excellence, and improved teaching standards.
Addressing educators, government officials, students, and members of the public, Tiwari said the establishment of 551 model schools represents much more than the construction or upgradation of educational institutions. According to him, the initiative is aimed at creating learning environments that combine quality teaching, modern facilities, technology-enabled classrooms, and stronger academic support systems to help students compete at both national and global levels.
He emphasized that the state government has been consistently working to improve educational outcomes through comprehensive reforms focused on teacher training, curriculum implementation, infrastructure development, and mission-based academic programs.
The minister highlighted that Bihar has witnessed considerable progress in recent years in several key areas of school education, including classroom learning, teacher capacity building, digital education, and institutional accountability.
He said the government has prioritized improving the overall quality of education by strengthening schools from the grassroots level rather than focusing solely on enrollment figures. According to Tiwari, the newly launched model schools will serve as benchmarks for academic excellence and will provide students with an environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, scientific learning, and overall personality development.

Tiwari also announced that the state government plans to convert more government-run schools into model institutions in the coming years. He said expanding the model school network will ensure that students living in rural and economically weaker regions receive educational opportunities comparable to those available in well-equipped urban schools.
The initiative, he noted, is intended to reduce disparities in educational access and create a more equitable school system across Bihar. By modernizing government schools, the administration aims to make quality education accessible regardless of a student's social or economic background.
Linking education reforms to India's long-term national development goals, Tiwari said improving the quality of school education will play a vital role in helping Bihar contribute to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047', the country's roadmap for becoming a developed nation by the centenary of Independence.
He stressed that investments in education today will produce a skilled, knowledgeable, and innovative workforce capable of driving economic growth, technological advancement, and social development over the coming decades. He added that strong educational foundations are essential for preparing students to meet future challenges in higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and research.
Earlier in the day, Tiwari, accompanied by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, visited the newly selected BP Inter School in Begusarai, which has been renamed Saraswati Vidya Niketan. During the visit, the leaders reviewed the institution's academic activities, assessed its modern infrastructure, and interacted with school officials regarding ongoing educational initiatives.
They also toured an exhibition showcasing projects developed by students, where they observed innovative models and creative work prepared as part of the school's academic and practical learning programs. The visit was intended to evaluate the institution's readiness as a model school and to encourage students and teachers participating in the state's education reform efforts.
State education officials said the model school initiative is expected to improve teaching standards, strengthen academic performance, promote technology-based learning, and create student-centered educational environments throughout Bihar. The government believes the program will not only enhance learning outcomes but also build greater public confidence in government schools by providing modern facilities, better-trained teachers, and improved educational opportunities for future generations.
