Zoho has launched Zoho Classes 2.0, an AI-powered learning management system designed for schools, colleges, and regulated educational institutions. The platform aims to simplify teaching, automate administrative tasks, and improve personalised learning.

SaaS company Zoho has launched Zoho Classes 2.0, an upgraded AI-powered Learning Management System (LMS) designed to support schools, colleges, and other regulated educational institutions. The platform aims to improve digital learning experiences while helping teachers and institutions manage academic and administrative tasks more efficiently.

Initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic as an assignment management tool, Zoho Classes has evolved into a complete academic platform with artificial intelligence capabilities. The company said the latest version is focused on supporting both government and private educational institutions.

Zoho Classes 2.0 is positioned to compete with global learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Moodle by offering AI-driven features, multilingual support, and tools designed specifically for India’s education ecosystem.

Dev Anand Ramasamy, Vice President of Product Management at Zoho, said the company is focusing on 'regulated' institutions that operate under bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Medical Commission (NMC), and various state education boards.

Ramasamy said the current education system faces multiple challenges, including students who are more digitally inclined but often do not connect with traditional teaching methods, teachers managing heavy administrative responsibilities, and increasing compliance requirements for institutions.

He said, “With Zoho Classes we want to bring AI in the middle of this equation. The goal is to provide a personalised digital learning experience for students while simultaneously helping teachers and institutions with repetitive administrative and regulatory tasks”.

The platform currently has around 500 institutional sign-ups globally and is used by several educational organisations, including SRM Institute, Sishya School, Chettinad Health City, CGIHM, Vidya Mandir, Grace International School, and GSE Institute.

To expand access to digital education, Zoho is offering Zoho Classes 2.0 at no product licensing cost to all Central and State Government schools, colleges, and universities. Teachers with up to 100 students can also use the platform free of charge.

The new version includes several AI-based features for students and educators. Students can access AI tutors, interactive quizzes, and structured course modules to support personalised learning. For teachers, the platform can automatically create lesson plans, develop complete courses, and assist with student evaluations.

While Zoho Classes currently contributes a small portion of the company’s overall revenue, Zoho said the platform has recorded steady growth. Around one-third of its revenue from Zoho Classes comes from India.

The company is initially launching Zoho Classes 2.0 in India and plans to expand it globally in the coming months. Zoho has already partnered with several Indian state governments to introduce the platform across public schools and colleges.

The company also plans to target educational institutions that already use its other enterprise solutions, including Zoho CRM and HR management tools.

According to Ramasamy, stronger AI integration and multilingual capabilities are among the platform’s key advantages. Zoho Classes currently supports all 22 scheduled Indian languages, helping institutions deliver learning content across diverse regions.

With the launch of Classes 2.0, Zoho aims to strengthen its presence in the education technology sector by combining artificial intelligence with classroom management tools and making digital learning more accessible for institutions across India.
