VTU Partners with Google to Enhance AI and Emerging Tech Skills

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has partnered with Google to provide artificial intelligence training and learning resources to engineering students and faculty members. The initiative aims to improve AI skills, enhance industry readiness, and prepare students for future employment opportunities.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has partnered with Google to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) learning modules for its students and faculty members. The collaboration aims to improve AI skills, strengthen technical education, and help engineering students become better prepared for industry requirements.

Under the agreement, Google will provide AI-focused content and training programs to VTU students starting this year. The initiative will cover areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data science, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies.

S Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor of VTU, said the program is part of the university’s broader effort to focus on skill-based education and improve employment opportunities for students.

He said, “As per the agreement, Google will charge Rs 350 per student. However, it is already part of the consortium of library fees that students have paid, and they need not pay anything extra this year” .

VTU has around 220 engineering colleges under its network, with nearly 3 lakh students. The university believes that providing industry-aligned training will help graduates develop practical skills required in the evolving technology landscape.

Vidyashankar added, “After completing engineering, students must be ready for immediate employment, aligned with industry needs. This requires multiple training programmes. Hence, we have partnered with Google and other companies to emphasise on skill education”. 

The program will also focus on faculty development. Google for Education India will train teachers to help them effectively use AI tools and integrate new learning methods into classrooms.

Sanjay Jain, Head of Google for Education, India, highlighted the need for responsible and effective AI adoption among students and educators.

He said, “Today, even small children use AI, but very few use it effectively. Through this programme, we will train both students and faculty to prepare them as per industry requirements. Based on NEP and SEP, several learning models will be introduced”.

Along with the Google partnership, VTU has announced collaborations with other organizations to expand technology-based learning opportunities. The university is launching an advanced digital learning platform called Simulation Enabled Experiential Learning through its e-learning center.

The cloud-based platform will allow students to gain practical experience through simulations and digital learning tools. It will offer resources such as GATE exam preparation materials, previous question papers, mock tests, industry-focused courses, AI-powered mock interviews, and technical workshops.

Students will also get access to more than 1,900 industrial projects and internship opportunities, along with expert sessions and webinars designed to improve their practical knowledge.

VTU is also planning to establish an electric vehicle (EV) incubation center in Mysuru to encourage innovation among students. The required land for the center will be provided by the state government.

In another collaboration, Qualcomm, through its subsidiary Stem Lore Innovators LLP, will support long-term training programs in AI, product prototyping, embedded systems, and Internet of Things (IoT). A Centre of Excellence in Edge AI will also be established to help students gain expertise in advanced technologies.

The university is further working with Bharat Skills Foundation to develop another center focused on skill education.

These partnerships reflect VTU’s efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations. By bringing global technology companies into the education ecosystem, the university aims to equip students with practical skills and improve their career opportunities in emerging technology sectors.
