Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies and the KSCSTE-Institute for Climate Change Studies have partnered to strengthen climate science education, research and industry-ready skills.
Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) and the KSCSTE-Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS), Kottayam, have partnered to strengthen climate science education and research in Kerala.
The two institutions have signed a Letter of Agreement to jointly implement a five-year integrated postgraduate program in Climate Science and Data Analytics at Kufos’ Faculty of Ocean Science and Technology.
The partnership comes as climate change increases the need for professionals who can understand environmental systems, analyze climate data and develop practical solutions. The program aims to prepare students for careers across climate research, environmental management, disaster risk reduction and sustainability.
The integrated postgraduate program will combine academic learning with research and practical training. Students will gain exposure to climate systems, environmental data analysis and science-based approaches to address climate-related challenges.
The program is also expected to support areas such as climate policy, disaster preparedness and sustainable development. This could help students build skills relevant to government agencies, research institutions, environmental organizations and other sectors working on climate-related issues.
Under the agreement, Kufos and ICCS will work together on academic activities, research support and faculty participation. The institutions will also focus on student training and capacity building as part of the collaboration.
