India will chair the BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting in Bhubaneswar on Friday, with discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among member countries in education, skill development, research, and innovation.
Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi will lead the Indian delegation at the meeting, which will bring together education ministers, senior officials, and representatives from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE.
The ministers are expected to discuss key priorities, including Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), skill development, research and innovation, mutual recognition of academic qualifications, and academic leadership.
The meeting aims to promote stronger collaboration among BRICS nations and support the development of inclusive and future-ready education systems.
Ahead of the ministerial meeting, the Ministry of Education hosted the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials’ Meeting under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 in Bhubaneswar on August 5. The meeting focused on reviewing the draft BRICS Education Ministers’ Declaration and building consensus among member countries.
During the discussions, officials exchanged suggestions and worked on finalizing the declaration, which will be presented for adoption by education ministers. The discussions covered areas such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), collaborative research initiatives, academic partnerships, and the BRICS Guiding Principles on Traditional and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
The participating delegations emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional partnerships, expanding academic and research collaborations, and encouraging the exchange of best practices across BRICS countries.
The Ministry of Education said the discussions highlighted the shared commitment of member nations to develop education systems that are more inclusive, resilient, and prepared for future challenges.
The ministry says, "The deliberations reaffirmed the member countries' shared commitment to advancing inclusive, resilient and future-ready education systems through greater cooperation, innovation and knowledge exchange".

The senior officials’ meeting concluded with the finalization of the proposed BRICS Education Ministers’ Declaration, marking a key milestone under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026.
India’s leadership at the meeting comes as countries increasingly focus on improving education quality, expanding skill-based learning, and strengthening research capabilities. With technology reshaping industries and creating demand for new skills, BRICS nations are exploring ways to align education systems with future workforce requirements.
