IIT Madras is expanding its free digital education initiative, Vidya Shakti, to reach 10,000 more students in rural Tamil Nadu and other parts of India. The initiative provides online classes in science, math, and English after school hours, allowing students to clarify doubts in real-time. This year, the program will also introduce virtual reality to explain complex topics.
Vidya Shakti currently serves over seven lakh students across the country and plans to reach 11 lakh children in 11,000 schools across 10 states. The initiative uses EduReach, an innovative platform developed by the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, which includes features like quiz assessments and performance tracking at multiple levels. The platform also uses AI tools to evaluate students' written answers and provide valuable insights to teachers.

In the coming year, the program will focus on improving writing skills and continue enhancing the platform's capabilities, including AI-powered tools for question generation and real-time evaluation. To support the growing digital education efforts, IIT Madras will host a workshop to familiarize educators, administrators, and policy stakeholders with the platform's features.
