IIT Hyderabad has announced the launch of the Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), a new residential training initiative designed to strengthen India's talent pool in the nuclear energy sector.
The institute is offering the program in collaboration with Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. and will begin the first batch on August 3 at the IIT Hyderabad campus.
The three-month course aims to equip engineers and industry professionals with practical and technical knowledge of nuclear power technologies. The initiative comes at a time when India is increasing its focus on clean energy and expanding its nuclear power infrastructure.
According to IIT Hyderabad, the growing role of nuclear energy in the country's energy mix is expected to create strong demand for professionals with specialized expertise in the field. The NTOP has been designed to help meet that demand by preparing participants for opportunities across the nuclear power value chain.
The program seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. Participants will gain exposure to the technical, operational, regulatory, and safety aspects of nuclear power generation.
The course is targeted at early-career and mid-career engineers, engineering consultants, managers from engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies, power sector professionals, and executives working in public sector organizations involved in energy and infrastructure projects.
Its curriculum combines core nuclear engineering principles with real-world industry applications. Participants will study reactor physics, reactor engineering, radiation shielding, nuclear safety, waste management, reactor instrumentation, control systems, thermal hydraulics, quality assurance, and emergency preparedness.
The program will also cover emerging technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which are increasingly being viewed as an important part of the future nuclear energy landscape.
Training will be delivered by IIT Hyderabad faculty members along with experienced scientists and engineers from organizations under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The institute believes this blend of academic and industry expertise will give participants a well-rounded understanding of the sector.
Speaking on the launch, Prof. B. S. Murty, Director in IIT Hyderabad, said, the initiative reflects the institute's commitment to supporting capacity building in strategic sectors. He noted that bringing together academic knowledge and industry experience can help create a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting future industry needs.
The collaboration with Crimson Energy Experts is part of a broader effort to develop a structured talent pipeline for India's nuclear energy ambitions. As the country works toward increasing nuclear power generation as part of its clean energy goals, workforce development is becoming a key priority.
