Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Elections 2026-27 is taking place today across Delhi University colleges, with more than 1.51 lakh eligible students expected to participate in the election process.
Students are voting to elect representatives for the four central DUSU posts: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary.
The polling is being conducted in two shifts across participating colleges. The election has drawn participation from major student organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the AISA-SFI alliance, alongside independent candidates.
The final presidential contest includes seven candidates, while five candidates are contesting for Vice-President and four each for Secretary and Joint Secretary.
Student concerns have featured prominently in the campaign. Issues discussed by candidates and student organisations include hostel and paying-guest accommodation, student safety, academic administration, metro concession passes, career opportunities and campus facilities.
Different organisations have presented their respective priorities and proposals during the campaigning period.
Ahead of polling, the University of Delhi administration emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in a fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, said:
“The DUSU elections must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. All students are equal for the University of Delhi and its teachers.”
The university has also issued election-related guidelines covering candidate conduct, grievance redressal, polling arrangements and restrictions on movement around the campus during the election period.
The official University of Delhi website has published the election schedule, candidate lists, code of conduct and other notices for the 2026-27 DUSU elections.
The election is taking place against the backdrop of heightened discussion around student welfare and campus infrastructure.
Accommodation has been a particularly visible issue, with proposals from student organisations addressing hostel availability, paying-guest facilities and related safety concerns.
Academic issues, including examination results, internal assessment and access to career and internship opportunities, have also featured in campaign discussions.
The DUSU election process is significant within Delhi University because the elected central office-bearers represent students in university-level forums and engage with issues affecting student life and campus administration.
According to DUSU's official information, the President represents students in University Academic and Executive Council meetings, while the Secretary handles official correspondence and union administration.
Vote counting is scheduled for September 19, 2026, when the university is expected to announce the results following the completion of the counting and validation process.
The DUSU elections therefore remain an important annual event in Delhi University's academic calendar, bringing student participation, campus governance and institutional representation into focus.
